According to reports, the use of Telegram will be temporarily suspended on Monday, March 25 at the request of several media companies such as Atresmedia, EGEDA and Telefonica.

Telegram was founded in 2013 by two brothers, programmers and mathematicians from Russia named Pavel Durov and Nikolai Durov. They are also the founders of VKontakte, a popular social networking site in Russia. However, many countries banned Telegram due to its refusal to hand over the 'encryption key' to the authorities.

These include Iraq, Iran, Brazil and Somalia. Iraq banned Telegram last year citing national security concerns. Telegram was banned due to allegations of leaking many important information of the country through the app. However, the ban was lifted after a few months.

Telegram was also banned in Russia. The app was banned in April 2018 after failing to comply with the authorities on privacy issues. The ban was lifted in 2020 after almost two years.
